Chief Executive Officer
Daniel W. Shaeffer is the Chief Executive Officer of Cottonwood Capital. Mr. Shaeffer oversees all capital raising activities, investor relations and financial management for the firm. He is also actively involved in acquisitions and deal structuring. He is a member of the Executive and Investment Committees and sits on the Company’s Board of Directors.
Before joining Cottonwood, Mr. Shaeffer worked as a Senior Equities Analyst with Wasatch Advisors of Salt Lake City, a leading small cap asset manager with approximately $10 billion in funds under management. While at Wasatch, Mr. Shaeffer was responsible for identifying, valuing, and monitoring various public company investments held by the firm as well as assisting in the development of the firms’ strategy in private equity and venture capital investing.
Prior to joining Wasatch Advisors, Mr. Shaeffer was a Vice President of the Investment Banking Division at Morgan Stanley. He focused primarily on advising CEOs and CFOs of his client organizations on mergers and acquisitions as well as capital raising transactions.
As part of this experience, Mr. Shaeffer gained extensive experience in evaluating corporate transactions and developed critical financial modeling and valuation skills together with significant knowledge regarding the organization and execution of securities offerings.
Mr. Shaeffer began his career with Ernst & Young working in the firm’s audit department where he gained important experience in building, interpreting and analyzing financial statements.
Mr. Shaeffer holds a Bachelors of Science in accounting from Brigham Young University, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
